RUTH STEINITZ
(27.11.1907 - 17.12.1995)
1907 Born in Breslau, Germany (now Wroclaw, Poland). The daughter of Oscar and Agnes Aber.
1927 Graduated from high school (at the Augustaschule) in Breslau
1927-1933 Studied medicine at the Friedrich-Wilhelms University of Breslau, the Ruprecht-Karl University of Heidelberg and Friedrich-Wilhelms University of Berlin.
1933 Married Heinz Sigismund Steinitz. Following the onset of the Nazi regime in Germany, immigrated to Palestine. The medical studies were discontinued in the final practical year.
1933-1948 The British authorities of the Palestine Mandate refused permission to practice medicine.
1951-1952 Resumed medical practice. Worked at the Bikur Holim hospital in Jerusalem, in the Department of Internal Diseases with Prof. Zondek, in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology with Dr. Rosenberger, and in the Department of Pediatrics with Dr. H. Kagan.
1953-1954 Participated in a training program for school health, community health center services and cardiac care of children, held at the Department of Public Health, Yale University, New Haven, Connecticut, USA. Became familiar with the American Cancer Registry Program during her training at Yale University.
1954-1956 Worked in Hadassa Hospital as a pediatrician and family physician in Beth Shemesh and the immigrant villages of the Jerusalem corridor.
1957-1959 Pediatrician of Tipat Halav (mother and child care) and family doctor in the Nachlaot quarter of Jerusalem.
1959 Started to work with Dr. Sieman and Dr. Zilberstein in the Tuberculosis Registry, Ministry of Health, Jerusalem.
1960 Establishment of the Israel Cancer Registry at the Ministry of Health, Jerusalem. Served as Head of the Israel Cancer Registry. Continued her work and activity at the Cancer Registry until March 1994.
1996 Took part in the International Meeting of Cancer Registries I Tokyo, Japan
1970 Participation in the 10th International Cancer Congress, Houston, USA.
1972 Participation in the 9th International Congress of the International Academy of Pathology, Jerusalem, Israel.
1975 Took part in the 11th International Cancer Congress, Florence, Italy.
1978 Took part in the Perugia Quadrennial International Conference on Cancer, Perugia, Italy.
